Maharani Durgavati’s 462nd Martyrdom Anniversary Observed with Reverence in PDDU Nagar; Tributes Highlight Her Fierce Resistance Against Mughal Forces
The 462nd martyrdom anniversary of Gond warrior queen Maharani Durgavati was commemorated in PDDU Nagar with solemn tributes, a traditional ceremony, and a seminar highlighting her courage, battlefield leadership, and ultimate sacrifice against Mughal forces, inspiring generations with her legacy of bravery and dignity.
The programme commenced with floral tribute and garlanding of Maharani Durgavati’s portrait, followed by worship conducted according to Gond tradition. The observance was marked by solemnity as participants paid homage to her legacy of courage and sacrifice.
During a seminar held as part of the programme, traditional priest Vijay Singh Dhurve highlighted the life, bravery, and supreme sacrifice of Maharani Durgavati. He stated that she was born on 5 October 1524 in Kalinjar Fort and demonstrated exceptional courage, energy, and mastery of warfare from an early age. She was specially trained in horse riding, elephant riding, and weapons handling, excelling in martial skills.
He further noted that Maharani Durgavati fought multiple battles to protect her kingdom and honor, repeatedly defeating the Mughal army. On 24 June 1564, during a fierce battle, she found herself surrounded by enemy forces. Rather than surrender, she chose martyrdom, embracing death with dignity. Her sacrifice continues to serve as a powerful inspiration for courage, self-respect, and national defense.
Other speakers at the seminar also shared their views on her struggle-filled life and contributions. They emphasized that Maharani Durgavati remains a symbol of bravery and feminine power not only for the tribal community but for the entire nation.
The programme witnessed the presence of several attendees, including Rajesh Gond Dhurve, Ashutosh Dhurve, Abhishek Dhurve, Rakesh Gond, Pranjal Gond Dhurve, Saraswati Dhurve, Pushpa Dhurve, Chanda Dhurve, Aradhya Dhurve, and Saroj Devi, along with a large gathering of participants.
At the conclusion of the event, attendees paid floral tributes to Maharani Durgavati and collectively pledged to follow the path of courage and righteousness she embodied
